Watch: DRDO successfully conducts trial of India-made high-speed UAV

In yet another breakthrough, India moved a step ahead in enhancing its aerial capabilities on Saturday by successfully conducting a flight trial of the Autonomous Flying Wing Technology Demonstrator — a high-speed UAV (Unmanned Aerial Vehicle), from Aeronautical Test Range based in the Karnataka city of Chitradurga.

The vehicle, whose trial was conducted by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), comes with a tailless configuration, helping India join an elite group of countries to have mastered the controls for the flying wing technology.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh appreciated the DRDO, Armed Forces and the Industry for the successful flight trial of the system, according to a press release. Singh stated that the successful development of such critical technologies indigenously will further strengthen the Armed Forces.

According to the release, the UAV has been designed and developed by DRDO’s Aeronautical Development Establishment.

The maiden flight of the aircraft was demonstrated in July 2022, followed by six flight trials in various developmental configurations using two in-house manufactured prototypes, the statement highlighted.

Secretary Department of Defence R&D and Chairman DRDO Dr Samir V Kamat also congratulated the organisation and the teams associated with the successful flight trial, the release stated.
